Traffic Court Records in Tooele County
The citation controls the first move. Start with the face of the ticket. Pull the court name, response deadline, citation number, violation code, and payment or appearance direction from it. Most Utah traffic infractions start in a justice court. So do Class B or C misdemeanors tied to a stop. Keep the venues straight. Tooele County Justice Court, Grantsville Justice Court, Stockton Justice Court, and other possible spots are separate dockets.
Once you find the court record, it can show the case number, charge, classification, plea, hearings, disposition, accounting, and public documents. It cannot replace the citation's deadline or a current instruction from the clerk. District Court may hold an appeal or another qualifying matter. Choosing District Court by default, though, will miss many justice-court citations.
Start With the Tooele Citation
Before a court case number exists, the citation number is your strongest search key. Location matters just as much. Case numbers belong to one court location and are not necessarily unique statewide. Also, a same-day ticket may sit unentered until local staff log it. A fresh docket search can look empty at first.
| Search field | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Citation number | Exact identifier printed on the ticket |
| Case number | Court identifier after filing or entry |
| Citation location | Municipality or court assigned to the matter |
| Court name | The office that controls response and appearance |
| Violation and filing dates | Different dates that should not be confused |
| Offense code | Official description, severity, and appearance flag |
| Plea or disposition | Entered status, outcome, and date |
| Account balance | Current court accounting, subject to clerk confirmation |
Use your birth date only when Xchange needs it to separate names in a permitted search. If you already have a citation number, rely on that instead. Never publish the date anywhere.
How to Look Up a Traffic Ticket
Utah Xchange is the public route to case information. Pick Justice Court, a traffic or infraction case type, and the Tooele County or exact municipal location. The public calendar confirms a setting, while MyCase serves verified parties only.
- Read the citation from top to bottom and note court, deadline, number, code, and instructions.
- Search Xchange by citation number and citation location; use the case number if one is assigned.
- Confirm the result’s county, court, type, filing date, and number before opening the history.
- Compare the charge code with the current Shared Master Offense Table and Uniform Fine Schedule.
- Call the named court if the ticket is absent, newly issued, or assigned to an unclear location.
- Use the counter, mail, phone, public terminal, or written record request when online access fails.
Tooele County Justice Court sits at 74 South 100 East, reachable at 435-843-3230. Stockton Justice Court uses 435-882-3877. The county directory lists 435-665-9000 for Wendover routing, and the official court directory confirms current Grantsville and Rush Valley contacts.
Tooele Offense Codes and Fines
The Shared Master Offense Table, called SMOT, gives current offense descriptions, classifications, recommended fines, and mandatory-appearance flags, with monthly updates. The 2026 Uniform Fine Schedule is another official reference. Neither replaces the amount in the live court account. The SMOT search page lets you cross-check a Tooele County traffic record against the official offense entries.

A recommended fine can drift from the assessed amount after court action, added fees, credits, or a changed disposition. And a mandatory-appearance flag means online payment alone is not a proper response.
Finding Your Traffic Court Date
Check the official Utah court calendar and select the exact justice-court location. Then compare what you see against the citation and the Xchange history. A reset can change a calendar row, and the citation notice still matters even when no public row appears.
| Citation | citation number + citation location |
|---|---|
| Case | court case number + court location |
| Date and time | The newest listed setting, checked against current notice |
| Courtroom | Physical room or remote designation |
| Judge | Assigned judge for that calendar |
| Setting type | Arraignment, pretrial, trial, sentencing, review, or another exact label |
Stockton's local page sets Friday arraignments and third-Wednesday law-in-motion dates by appointment. Call the court rather than assuming that schedule applies anywhere else in Tooele County.
Stockton Traffic Court Timing
Stockton publishes a pointed local rule: contact or appear no less than five and no more than 14 days after issuance. Its Justice Court sits at 18 North Johnson Street. Hours run Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch from noon to 1 p.m., plus Friday from 9 to 11 a.m.
Do not copy that window onto a county or Grantsville citation. The ticket and the court it names control. Stockton takes court payments at the office, by mail, by phone. Its town payment page is another option. That online page mixes court and utility accounts, asks for an account number, accepts Visa, Mastercard, and Discover, and warns that online refunds are unavailable. Check the category before you submit anything.
Paying or Contesting a Ticket
Paying and contesting are different responses. A payment may resolve a payable infraction. Anyone planning to contest should follow the citation's plea and appearance instructions before paying, because payment can resolve the charge outright.
| Pay path | Contest or appear path |
|---|---|
| Confirm court, name, number, amount, and deadline | Read the required response and appearance language |
| Use official Utah ePayments or the named local court channel | Enter a not-guilty plea as the citation and court direct |
| Stop if a mandatory-appearance flag applies | Call before the deadline if rescheduling is needed |
| Save the receipt and confirmation number | Keep the notice and verify the new setting |
| Check Xchange later for an accounting update | Seek legal advice for case-specific choices |
The official Utah ePayments page needs a case or citation number plus name verification. Not every court uses it, though.

The state screen routes both district and justice payments. If your named court is missing, call its clerk instead of guessing at a similar location.
Do not ignore the deadline. Failure to respond can lead to a warrant or suspension and other license consequences, depending on the citation and court.
Contact the issuing court before the deadline to ask about rescheduling or the correct response.
Tooele Deferred Traffic Options
Utah Code section 77-2-4.2 lays out deferred prosecution and traffic school for qualifying traffic violations. The deferral runs 12 months. Successful compliance can avoid prosecution or conviction and end in dismissal under the governing terms. Eligibility is never automatic.
Current Utah Courts material ties the route to a moving infraction under Title 41 Chapter 6a. The ticket must be no more than 21 days old at request. Prior-history limits and other conditions also apply. Check the application before the deadline passes, and ask the court about its fee. In Xchange, codes PA or PB can reflect plea in abeyance. DT can reflect deferred traffic status. Read the order itself rather than translating a code alone.
Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record
A traffic court file and a Utah driving record are two different records in two different hands. The court clerk holds the citation case, docket events, orders, disposition, and accounting. The Utah Driver License Division keeps the motor-vehicle record through its official MVR process.
| Court case record | DLD driver record |
|---|---|
| Custodian is the deciding court and clerk | Custodian is the Driver License Division |
| Shows citation charge, settings, plea, disposition, and court account | Shows the separate state driving history and status data |
| Found through Xchange, clerk, terminal, or record request | Requested through DLD MVR |
| Certified disposition comes from the clerk | A court printout is not a DLD record |
Reportable convictions reach the DLD within ten days. Nonmoving matters can be treated differently. Clearing the court file through expungement does not wipe the separate driver record, so ask each office that holds the data about its own process.
Tooele Traffic Appeals and Follow-Up
Lost a Tooele traffic case? A justice court criminal or traffic decision can be appealed to district court. The result is a brand-new proceeding. It is known as a de novo hearing. Utah Code section 78A-7-118 generally sets the criminal notice of appeal deadline at 28 days. Ask the deciding court to confirm the fee, deadline, and exact procedure.
Once you pay, contest, or defer, keep every receipt and order. Then recheck Xchange. Wait until staff have had time to enter the event. A disposition might read guilty, no contest, fine paid, or dismissed. It can also show plea in abeyance or deferred traffic prosecution. The exact order governs. Never infer a DLD consequence from the court code.
Fees and Copies
Traffic amounts come from several places. Label each figure correctly. A fee schedule is not a live balance, and a payment receipt is not a certified disposition.
| Item | Official detail |
|---|---|
| Xchange public document | $1 for each eligible document |
| Court payment | Current amount from the citation or court account |
| SMOT | Monthly offense description, severity, recommended fine, and appearance flag |
| Uniform Fine Schedule | 2026 statewide fine and appearance reference |
| Community service | $12 per hour for eligible Class B, Class C, and infraction matters after court contact |
| Plain copy | $0.25 per page under the current statewide schedule |
| Certified copy | $0.50 per page plus $4 per document |
| Exemplified copy | $0.50 per page plus $6 per document |
For a certified dismissal or judgment, give the clerk the citation number, case number, court, name, violation date, and the exact document you need. A portal receipt does not supply certification.
Requesting Tooele Traffic Records
Xchange carries the public docket history. A courthouse terminal may offer free CORIS access instead. The clerk takes inspection and copy requests by counter, mail, email, or phone routing. The statewide form is another route. Describe the record precisely. For hearing audio, use the recording form. It wants the hearing date, judge, courtroom, case number, delivery choice, and payment.
Utah Rules of Judicial Administration govern access to court records. Juvenile, sealed, private, and expunged files can be absent or reduced. An authorized person follows Rules 4-202.03 and 4-202.04 and provides the required proof. A county GRAMA request never replaces a judicial case request. The full Tooele County court records process explains certification and copy channels.
When a Citation Is Missing
A missing citation has common fixes. Check the jurisdiction, citation location, exact number, name spelling, case type, and filing range. A newly issued ticket may simply not be entered yet. Do not keep searching with another person's similar information. Call the court printed on the ticket. Ask whether the citation is pending entry, assigned elsewhere, or payable through another official route.
Tooele County Justice Court: 435-843-3230. Stockton: 435-882-3877. Use the state directory for Grantsville or an uncertain venue. Note the date, the staff response, and your next step. If a hearing is near, check the Tooele County court calendar too. But an empty calendar never overrides the citation deadline.
